Deja Vu... All Over Again!

"Then they said 'Chalabi,' and now they say 'Pahlavi.' Indeed, those neoconservative operators who persuaded President George W. Bush to buy a used rug from Mr. Ahmed Chalabi and the rest of the crew of Iraqi con-men are now certain that Mr. Pahlavi and his potential allies will soon establish democracy in Iran.

In a way, as we listen to what the former fans of Mr. Chalabi are saying about their new man, Mr. Pahlavi, one can paraphrase Karl Marx, add that Yogi Berra touch, and conclude: Déjà vu repeats itself all over again: first as tragedy, second as farce."

"This repellent work of "art" -- again, to reiterate, a creepily sexual sculpture of a young, cheesy pop star with her legs spread, back arched, pelvis thrust, butt in the air, and generally, you know, looking more prepared for a roll in the sack than the painful expulsion of a small human from her body -- is, in fact, called "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston.""

Truly... Fuck the Times!

"Not one op-ed discussing abortion on the op-ed page of the most powerful liberal paper in the nation was written by a reproductive-rights advocate, a pro-choice service-provider, or a representative of a women’s group. Instead, the officially pro-choice New York Times has hosted a conversation about abortion on its op-ed page that consisted almost entirely of the views of pro-life or abortion-ambivalent men, male scholars of the right, and men with strong, usually Catholic, religious affiliations. In fact, a stunning 83 percent of the pieces appearing on the page that discussed abortion were written by men."

Is the New York Times Still Pro-Choice?

"Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, said Thursday he would support a censure motion condemning President Bush for authorizing wiretaps without a court order, the only Democrat to stand with the author, Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin."

"To accuse an Arab of “anti-Semitism” is ridiculous. Lawrence of Arabia was of the opinion that all of the tribes of the Middle East were Semites, including the Jews. But to a Zionist, anyone who is anti-Zionist is an anti-Semite, even a religious Jew."

An American Inquisition?

"There's more at stake here than local politics. Since the 'war on terror' began, too many Americans have become inured to enforced patriotism and ideological litmus tests. We hardly notice the way that speech itself has come to be regarded as something to be policed, or the way that dissent, the lifeblood of freedom, is constantly devalued. Rogers's cave-in is all the more reason for the rest of us to speak up: for the Palestinians, for American Jews who don't regard Hoenlein as their spokesman, against blacklists, against censorship and above all against the rising tide of fear."

Some Good Slogans

22500823

We marched down the Michigan Avenue with what appeared to be more than 10,000 people protesting the war on the people of Iraq and their sovereignty. It was fun. Some good slogans I heard:

- While you Shopping - Bombs are dropping
- Impeach that Son of a Bush
- Bring the War Home
- Support the Troops - Bring them Home

Nothing... Not a Thing.

I checked our local media coverage tonight. Although news media was present at the protest march tonight, and I saw them filming the protest, I saw no coverage of the event on CBS, NBC and ABC news. Nothing. As if the protest march did not happen.

That's Liberal media for you.

"I've gotten balanced coverage, and broad coverage--all we could have asked. For heaven sakes, we kid about the 'liberal media,' but every Republican on earth does that,"
-- Patrick Buchanan during the 1996 campaign.

"The liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures."
--William Kristol, Republican/neoconservative publicist.

Really... Fuck The Times.

Can you find the news about the anti-war protests on this...? I know it's hard but try anyhow.

Fuck the Times

"In another example of why the New York Times' status as an icon of 'liberal media' is so puzzling, the paper's initial coverage of Sen. Russ Feingold's March 12 proposal to censure George W. Bush for his warrantless wiretapping ran on page 17, and the report on Democrats' reaction to Feingold's proposal was printed on page 24, but news that Republicans 'have found a new rallying cry in the dreams of liberals about censuring' Bush makes the front page. As Eric Boehlert's observed, 'Throughout the Bush presidency there's been a very simple formula for defining what's news—if Republicans say it's news, than it is.'"

"The press, flown in from Baghdad to this agricultural gridiron northeast of Samarra, huddled around the Iraqi officials and U.S. Army commanders who explained that the 'largest air assault since 2003' in Iraq using over 50 helicopters to put 1500 Iraqi and U.S. troops on the ground had netted 48 suspected insurgents, 17 of which had already been cleared and released. The area, explained the officials, has long been suspected of being used as a base for insurgents operating in and around Samarra, the city north of Baghdad where the bombing of a sacred shrine recently sparked a wave of sectarian violence."

Cowards...

I do not understand it. Where is the backbone? Where are the balls? The Guts? With Democrats like this who needs enemies... I cannot believe they decided not to back Feingold's attempt to a censure... I just cannot believe it. This One-Party System is only hurting the lot of us.

"The only prominent politicians I have any respect left for now are the four horsemen of the Democratic Party -- Al Gore, Russ Feingold, Howard Dean and Jack Murtha. They must rebuild this party from the ground up.

The cowards who run it now are more afraid of their own shadows, and the shadow of Fox News Channel, to ever stand up for the people who voted for them in the first place. The whole country is waiting for you stand up to these bullies. Will you, for the love of God and country, do it already?!"

Word To The Wise

"I am tired of having the party nomination decided before the first primary vote is cast, tired of having the party beholden to the same old Establishment money.

We can raise our own money on the Internet, and we know it. Howard Dean raised $42 million, largely on the web, with a late start when he was running for President, and that ain’t chicken feed. If we double it, it gives us the lock on the nomination. So let’s go find a good candidate early and organize the shit out of our side."

Holy Crap!

Has anyone been there? I have. The place stinks the smell of urine and there is no soap to wash your hands. Come to think of it, there may be a good reason for the lack of soap! I guess one should not joke about things like this...

"The men's room on the basement level of the Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St., is a well-known spot for men to meet for sex, authorities said, and Washington entered the bathroom when he was at the state office building to renew his driver's license."

Are you kidding me? Spring Break may be the only time that some kids may get a chance to get laid. The hell kind of a warning is this? Go ahead... get drunk... get wild. This is what memories are made out of!!

"The American Medical Association is warning girls not to go wild during spring break. All but confirming what goes on in those 'Girls Gone Wild' videos, 83 percent of college women and graduates surveyed by the AMA said spring break involves heavier-than-usual drinking, and 74 percent said the break results in increased sexual activity."

... one hopes this to be true of course!! :)

"President Bush on Saturday said he was shocked and saddened to learn that former domestic policy adviser Claude Allen was charged with theft for allegedly receiving phony refunds at department stores.

'When I heard the story last night, I was shocked, and my first reaction was one of disappointment, deep disappointment -- if it's true -- that we were not fully informed,' Bush said. 'Shortly thereafter, I felt really sad for the Allen family.' "

ANTHONY HERNANDEZ

AHZ054

Many years ago, unbeknownst to me, I did the same thing Hernandez did--walking down the street and talking random pictures of people. Our approach was different in that Hernandez prepared his shot and then brought his camera to his eye before snapping it. I just walked down the street while holding up the camera to my eye and snapping away as I walked... the results were pretty much the same: faces caught in time and moments registered for scrutiny.

I love these photos.

"Indeed, declassification of records was not even a blip on the campaign’s radar screen, certainly nothing compared to the news media’s interest in Vice President Al Gore’s “earth-tone” clothing or Texas Gov. George W. Bush’s pledge to restore “honor and decency” to the White House."
